Céad míle fáilte - A thousand welcomes!

Dear guests,

our house be your house; live in it, but let it live!

When you arive in the house, have a look around. This does also mean to open cupboards, drawers, closets or wardrobes to look what is inside. In the drawers in the middle of the sideboard in the dinig room, you will find bulbs and fuses. In the wall-cupboard of the kitchen is very often left over food such as noodles, rice, spices, coffee or tea. It is just sensible to use this stuff instead of let it getting old. And some guests leave something they did not use for the next as well.

Some kids stuff, toys and games are in the right part of the sideboard. We kindly ask you to keep this in some order, especially to not mix up the puzzles. In there is also a cassette recorder and some children cassettes (in German).

In regular intervals we maintain the driving track to our house. However, as we share this road with tractors that carry the turf out of the bog, the road may get quite muddy and has some pot-holes. Usually, it looks worse than it actually is and we did not have problems in over 20 years. Nevertheless, when it is heavily worn out by tractors you are asked to drive at walking pace at some sections.

Water supply: Since march, 1994, we have our own well drilled (50 m deep). The water pump is below ground but a pressure container is in the little room beside the garage. The water is pumped into a container on the roof of the house, and from there it flows through the plumbing system to the taps. Sometimes the water looks a little bit greenish or brownish and may smell like sulphur. Nevertheless, the water is of very good quality; we had it analysed by our local German waterworks. We were also told that this water should have some healing quality, as there is an old spa in the bay close to the house that was used by the locals as a cure until the mid 20th century. Hence the name "Spa House".

When the water was quite a while in the containment some iron is precipitated and dark brown water runs out of the taps (especially hot water). This is not very pleasant, but by now we have no idea how to filter the iron out of the water, before. However, it is not harmful and at least usable for washing.

Final cleaning:
Final cleaning will be done for you and costs 50 EUR.

Lena Hogan takes care for the house when nobody is there or when you need any assistance. She is always friendly and helpful, so do not hesitate to ask when qustions or problems arise.

We wish you a pleasant stay.
